![]() People didnt bring only turtles but other natural resources to the saudeleurs chiefs as tribute to show signs of respect. Turtles were taken and used as tribute for the chiefs. ![]() I dont know anything about dogs being eaten because according to oral traditions dogs were brought to pohnpei by the european sailors and we did not originally have dogs here even during the time of saudeleur dynasty. If we run out they will follow us to our houses and knock on our doors with their heads just to get us to feed them. ![]() There is also a belief that if we overfeed the wild eels they will remember us and keep looking for us for food. even today elders always advise their children not to throw rocks at wild eels in the river or make too much noise if they go swimming, because they feared that the eels would haunt or disturb them. From what I know and based off the many legendary stories I have heard over the past years eels were considered sacred because the people thought of them as gods or shape shifters. I am a 17 year old micronesian and I have moved here to pohnpei in 2010 and I have been living here ever since.
